Human Therapies » Potential Therapy Areas

The graphic below illustrates VIRxSYS’ platform technologies and potential lines of therapies derived from the lentiviral vector and RNA platforms. In viewing this graphic, note that the Company has programs in or is investigating plans for each of these potential product areas as follows:

  • Cell Therapy: Company’s lead program, VRX496™ for HIV, including two Phase II clinical trials by the Company and the University of Pennsylvania
  • Vaccines: Company’s anti-HIV vaccine program
  • Biologics: Company’s Apo A1 program to increase HDL (more commonly known as the “good cholesterol”) for the treatment of cardiovascular disease; and program for the second-generation of anti-body development
  • Gene Therapy: Company’s hemophilia A program
  • Stem Cell Therapy: iPS generation

Although the VIRxSYS was initially focused on an anti-HIV therapy, the Company is now developing multiple other therapies which it plans to carry through Phase I or Phase II clinical trials, at which point, if successful, each therapy would be continued into Phase III trials and commercialized on one of three tracks: (i) sold or licensed to a biopharmaceutical company; (ii) co-developed with a biopharmaceutical partner; or (iii) developed solely by VIRxSYS. The particular commercialization track would depend on the particular disease indication and optimum approach to launch each respective therapy to maximize value.

"VIRxSYS's strength lies in the quality of our lentiviral vector platform.  In developing VRX496 we learned an enormous amount that can be applied to future development programs in cancer and genetic diseases."
