Human Therapies » Potential Therapy Areas

The graphic below illustrates VIRxSYS’ platform technologies and potential lines of therapies to be derived from the lentiviral vector and SMaRTTM RNA platforms. The Company has programs in or is investigating plans for each of these potential product areas as follows:

  • Cell Therapy: Lexgenleucel-T (VRX496™) for HIV, including two Phase II clinical trials by the Company and the University of Pennsylvania
  • Vaccines: HIV vaccine program (VRX1273)
  • Biologics: apoA-I program (VRX1243) to increase HDL for the treatment of cardiovascular disease; and program for the second-generation of anti-body development
  • Gene Therapy: Treatment of hemophilia A program
  • Stem Cell Therapy: Generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS)

While VIRxSYS' initial focus was on an anti-HIV RNA immunotherapy (Lexgenleucel-T), it is now developing other viral vector-based therapies, including an HIV vaccine as well as other SMaRT™ RNA-based therapies. The Company plans to develop and commercialize each therapy on one of three tracks:

(i)   Sell or license to a biopharmaceutical company;
(ii)  Co-develop with a biopharmaceutical partner; or
(iii)  Develop solely by VIRxSYS.

"VIRxSYS's strength lies in the quality of our lentiviral vector platform and RNA expertise.  In developing Lexgenleucel-T, we learned an enormous amount that can be applied to future development programs in genetic diseases and vaccines."
Dr. Laurent Humeau, VIRxSYS VP Research and Development
