Stephen N. Mueller, PhD
Dr. Mueller is the Senior Director of Manufacturing at VIRxSYS. He has 12 years of experience in process development and production with biotechnology companies, and an additional 16 years as a cell biologist focused on basic research of cellular function. He received his PhD in Biology from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. While a post-doctoral fellow at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, PA, he focused upon the development of cell culture systems for the study of animal and human vascular endothelial cells. He continued these studies as an Assistant Professor at the Wistar Institute, and subsequently as an Associate Professor at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research in Camden, NJ. He was then recruited to join Genetic Therapy, Inc. a Novartis Company, where as Director of Manufacturing he established the company's ability to manufacture under cGMP conditions viral vectors and cells for injection into humans in some of the very first human gene therapy clinical trials, including the first Phase III international trial. He then served as Director of Manufacturing at Pro-Virus, Inc., another start-up company focused upon the development of a virus-based treatment for cancer.
