Yajin Ni, MD, PhD
Dr. Ni is the Director of Developmental Sciences in the Operations Department at VIRxSYS. She is responsible for the development of stable packaging and producer cell line for lentiviral vectors, the up-stream process for large-scale vector manufacture, and cell-based bioassays at VIRxSYS. Dr. Ni has 15 years of experience in the molecular virology field. She received her medical degree from Kunming Medical College in P.R. China, and finished her residency specializing in gastroenterology. She then received her Ph.D. in molecular virology from Kyoto University in Japan for her studies on the roles of the envelope glycoprotein of the rabies virus in neuropathogenesis. As a post-doctoral fellow at National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of NIH, she focused on gene delivery into rat brains using HSV-1 amplicon vectors for the functional study of serotonin transporter. Dr. Ni joined VIRxSYS in 2000 as a senior scientist. Her group developed a packaging cell line to package all kinds of HIV-1-based lentiviral vectors and a VRX496 producer cell line to produce high titer VRX496 for phase III trials and for commercial manufacture.
